by Chelsea Tromans
Wedding registries have come a long way in the last couple of years. There are now so many options (such as wishing wells, department store registries and honeymoon registries) and different ways to create a registry (in-store and online) that you are sure to find one to suit you and your fiancé’s needs. Here are ten of the best registry services in Australia that will make your registry-creating experience fun and hassle-free (listed in alphabetical order).
David Jones
A department store registry

Their extensive range of quality merchandise and services has everything you need for fitting out your home, as well as adding some fun with items like a TV, games and computer. Book an appointment with a David Jones Gift & Bridal consultant to start building a registry that your guests will find simple, convenient and familiar. Karma Currency
An online charity registry
If you’re a couple that has everything and doesn’t like the idea of receiving gifts, why not create a registry that raises money for a worthy cause. A charity registry is a great choice for to-be-weds who feel close to a specific cause or have no need for another set of sheets. Your guests will appreciate the kind gesture, and if you nominate a variety of charities they may even find one that they too hold close to their hearts. Karma Currency is an online not-for-profit company that connects gift giving occasions with worthy charities. By setting up your gift registry on Karma Currency’s website you can choose from hundreds of charities and thousands of gift options, including protecting the rainforest, saving endangered animals, funding research to cure cancer, clearing landmines and many more. Karma Currency’s Gift Registry is a free service for the couple and guests are charged a small processing fee of $4.95 on top of their contribution amount. Contributions to your registry can be made online or over the phone.

My Wedding Registry
A honeymoon registry
A honeymoon registry is your chance to experience the holiday and honeymoon of a lifetime, with the kind contributions from your wedding guests. My Wedding Registry is an online honeymoon and gift registry service that allows to-be-weds to personalise their registry by adding adventures, indulgences, necessities and extravagant splurges. My Wedding Registry is a fully-licensed independent travel agency so they can not only create your registry, but also help you every step of the way to plan and book your dream honeymoon. Their consultants have over eight years experience in the travel industry so you will be dealing with professionals that are passionate about your honeymoon and know how to source the best deals. My Wedding Registry has a ‘thank-you card manager’ that takes note of who gave you what to make sending your thank you cards easy.

Wedding Cellars
A wine registry
Your wedding registry is the perfect opportunity to start (or expand) your own wine collection. A refined wine cellar is something that can be enhanced in thirty or forty years time, and enjoyed for decades to come. You can also share each bottle of wine with the people who gave it to you the next time you invite them over for dinner. A wine cellar is something both you and your husband can enjoy, unlike a set of dinnerware that your hubby is unlikely to appreciate and you’re too nervous about him breaking to properly enjoy! If you’re an avid wine drinker, or looking to start, Wedding Cellars Bridal Wine Registry is for you. This online registry service allows you to tailor your wine registry list to suit your individual requirements and tastes. Guests will appreciate this unique registry and enjoy sharing their personal wine tastes with you.

What We Wish For
An online combination registry
What We Wish For is an online registry that makes gift giving and receiving an easy process. Couples are able to add any gifts they dream up, be it a house deposit, honeymoon flights, a sofa, or a romantic dinner for two. For all items listed on a registry, a name, price and photo is applied making it easy for guests to search through and find the perfect gift to give. The founders of What We Wish For have a background in website conception and design which has led them to creating a website that is easy to use while still looking good! As a registry service with a difference, What We Wish For also allows to-be-weds to create a free personalised website where they can post important information, photos and even their proposal story. After the wedding, couples withdraw the funds deposited by their guests in one lump sum (an 8% processing fee is charged) and are free to purchase the gifts on their registry in their own time and at the best available price after the wedding day.

Wishbox Co.
An online cash registry
If you’ve considered your registry options and decided the best gift is money, then Wishbox Co. is the registry for you. Wishbox Co. is an online cash registry where guests can contribute various dollar amounts as your wedding present. All contributions are made via your online registry so your guests are saved the time and travel of visiting stores or sifting through pages of product images. Guests have the option of donating anonymous amounts while still having their name recorded for the couple to see they’ve donated. The minimum amount a guest can contribute is $10, with no limit. This free service allows couples the luxury of buying their own presents, or putting it towards their wedding cost, honeymoon, home repayments or whatever they want. A processing fee is deducted from all contributions made by guests. Once you’ve opened an account, Wishbox Co. will provide you with Contribution Cards to include in your invitations, or to email to guests. These cards provide a polite, tactful, and tasteful way of asking guests to make a contribution to your online wishing well. The day after your wedding your account is automatically closed and a ‘Wishbox’ is delivered to the couple via registered post. This kit includes a list of all guests who contributed and the amounts (unless anonymous), special messages from your guests and a transaction receipt (or cheque) for all contributions made.

There is also Your Gift Wish, which I have just recently discovered, which allows you to create your own registry to collect cash, and then hosts your personal website. Take a look at http://www.yourgiftwish.com.au. I am thinking about giving it a go.

I registered with The Wedding List Co. and they are fabulous! Great service and the product range is very extensive. I didn’t want to go to DJ’s/Myer like everyone else!

We are using http://www.travelregistry.com,au for our honeymoon registry – the price seemed a bit more reasonable than most others. So far our guests are loving it and so are we, will let you know how it ends up!

I used wedding list co and it was a disaster! It is nearly 5 months since our wedding and we still haven’t received all our gifts. Despite them requesting we close our list asap several times, it took 2 months for us to recieve the main package. Several of them were faulty and we have just been told we will have to wait until late march for replacements! The ‘gift wrapping’ was pieces of cardboard wrapped around each item. The prices of the gifts were quite high compared to other sites, and it was quite a hassle to activate their ‘price match’ policy. In contrast, with some money we got from the wedding I placed an order with Peters of Kensington. Their products came with free (proper) gift wrapping, delivered within 10 days of the order being placed, and all in perfect condition for about half the price! Wedding list co claims they have great service but they have been slow to answer emails and sometimes down-right snotty- avoid at all costs!

Hi Claire,
It’s Karaline the Founder of WLC. I can’t tell you how disappointed my team and I were to read your comments. In 10 years and over 6000 registries we have never received feedback like this, and our extensive testimonials on our site only attest to our usually highly acclaimed service. It’s particularly disappointing as I know you made an unusually large request to add gifts we did not offer but went to great lengths to source these for you. Your delivery occurred 6 weeks after you closed your list, as per our 6-8 week guarantee when you chose the Flexible delivery option. This gives you the fantastic ability to make changes before we order your gifts which is something Peters and the department stores do not offer and most couples see the great advantage of this. We do offer the option for gifts to be fully wrapped but most couples chose not to for the environmental benefit of no paper given they are not a surprise. Our Price Match Policy works in exactly the same way as that of every other retailer in Australia in that proof must be received in email or hard copy. I’m sorry if your guests found it a hassle, we have never received that feedback from any guests directly before. I am only aware of 1 faulty item, which was a flaw in the manufacturing of a Waterford Decanter. As you can appreciate for a hand blown item there can very occasionally but extremely rarely be faults, which is why Waterford agreed to immediately replace it, and have ordered it directly from Ireland for you. I am aware there are still two gifts that had to be specially ordered from the UK as they were out of stock in Australia for all retailers. They will be sent beautifully wrapped with an apology gift for your feelings of our under performance. Finally I am most disappointed you found any of the staff snooty. I take the recruitment and training process of our staff so personally and have a very serious “no princess” rule in our business. Both Kirsty our Brisbane Store Manager and Victoria our Customer Service Manager you have been dealing with were really disappointed with that feedback. Sadly we have no opportunity to make this up to you next time as a bridal registry is something you only usually do once! I’d be happy to discuss any of this further with you over the phone if you’d prefer. Meanwhile enjoy all your gorgeous goodies and a wonderful first year of marriage.
Regards,
Karaline

I wouldn’t use Melbourne Wedding Registry – our experience was and is still not very good at all. After signing up a number of items went up in price 3 weeks before our wedding (none went down). Following the wedding we were advised that over 10% of our items were no longer available and therefore we had to choose other items using there credit.
We were married in November, it is now March and we are still waiting for 10 of our 40 items to be delivered , I spoke to them again today no apology and all they could say was that we wouldnt be receiving our final shipment for at least another month but it may be longer.
Try somewhere else!

There’s also another Australian honeymoon registry site, ourhoneymoonregistry.com.au, which allows users to create a personalised online registry with itemised gifts. Guests really love the ability to chose, for eg, “a gondola ride in Venice” as a gift, rather than something like honeyfund where you’re essentially just making a bank transfer and it’s so impersonal.
