Twenty-nine-year-old Michael Jeffrey knew he would marry 28-year-old Sonya Cononi the minute he met her at a company training meeting in Ohio. They quickly bonded over their affinity for art and their penchant for whipping up gourmet meals from scratch. By the time they said I do in a June ceremony in North Carolina, America, this pair had already accumulated plenty of nice bedding and fancy bath towels. But they found that their pots, pans, and appliances needed a serious upgrade. To make their cookware was as sophisticated as their culinary ambitions, the couple tossed their old flimsy stuff and registered at four separate places with one goal: to fill in all the kitchen blanks.

If you’re like Sonya and Mike and love to cook, be careful about going overboard with gadgets and small electrics; even the most well-intentioned kitchen-minded couples can get derailed there and end up with drawers and countertops full of tools they never use. Make sure you analyse the way you really cook — if you love to bake, then maybe a bread maker is for you. But if you’ve never yearned for a warm loaf from your own kitchen, then it’s likely it will just take up space. Look for the gadgets that make preparing the food you love easier. Restrain yourself from picking out anything else.
