Am I Insured Once We’re Wed?
Question: I am a freelance writer and haven't had health insurance for almost a year now. I'm getting married in six months, though, and my fiancé has insurance through his company. Once we're married, am I eligible for coverage under his plan?
Answer: by The Knot
Unless your fiancé works for an extremely small company and has some kind of special arrangement with his employer, you’re almost certainly entitled to be on his plan once you two tie the knot. Ask him about it — he should have a booklet of information about his health benefits, which will tell you for sure. Get all the paperwork filled out before your wedding, so that you can hand it over to his human resources manager before you head out on your honeymoon. That way, as soon as the honeymoon’s over, you should be able to get on the phone and make an appointment to see your doc!
