Wear Engagement Ring During Ceremony?

Question: Should I take my engagement ring off for the ceremony or does my fiancé put the band on top of my ring?

Answer: by The Knot

It’s up to you. Most people move their engagement ring to their right hand so that the band will not be “upstaged” and can be placed first on your finger, in its traditional position “closest to the heart.” You may also want to not wear your engagement ring that day — stow it somewhere safe! — especially if you’re wearing gloves.

Thank you for this I have had no idea how to do it!

What is the etiquette of wearing your engagement ring first and then the wedding band? I prefer the look of the engagement ring closer to my hand and also think that’s the first commitment he made to me and then it’s ‘sealed’ with the wedding band. So is it bad luck to do that?

@leeletrim, the wedding ring is worn ‘first’ (ie closer to the palm of your hand) because it is closer to your heart.
