Your Own (free!) Personalised Wedding Website

Your left hand is looking extra sparkly (and you can’t stop looking at it!), you’ve set the date and you are happy to be playing Cinderella looking for your perfect wedding slipper. Now literally everyone wants to know – when and where is the big celebration?!

One of the best ways to keep everyone in the loop about all the fun wedding details is to create your very own wedding website. Now, don’t worry, this isn’t just for the tech savvy brides and grooms- it really is for everyone! Especially if you are having a destination wedding or are inviting overseas guests- this is one way to ensure that everyone has all the up-to-date information they need.

And The Knot is here to make sure it’s super simple.

1. Make sure you are registered on TheKnot.com.au (it is at the top left hand corner of the homepage just above The Knot logo)

2. Go to the “My Wedding” section in the top right hand corner of the homepage, and click on “My Website”. Then have fun choosing from a variety of colours and themes like these:

salmon

blue-again

pink

You can include any information you like – from your gift registry and your proposal story, to your guest book and honeymoon. Or you can also choose to keep it simple, by just including some basic details like a map for guests so they know how to get from the ceremony to the reception, and where to book accommodation (you can easily delete the extra pages so that it still looks complete.) If it is a destination wedding, then your guests will appreciate all the local inside info- the best place to grab a cappuccino or a lovely walking spot. There are plenty of instructions for how to set all this up- you will be surprised at what you can create and how professional it looks!

The Knot gives you a couple of choices for the title of your website. It will generally include you and your groom’s first names and might be something like www.mary-and-dan.ourwedding.com. If you decide you would like to send traditional wedding invitations as well, you can include this website address on them.

You will look super organised and your guests will love feeling “in the know”.  Have fun choosing some sweet photos of you both,  selecting your colours and the style that suits you- you might be surprised how much fun it is!

Real Wedding Inspiration: Birdcage Veils

There’s something innately glamorous yet classically elegant about birdcage veils.

The veil is usually made from French netting and attached to a comb that can be worn solo, or fastened with a brooch, flower or feather. We love how these real brides below have added their own style with a pop of fun colour and some sweet embellishments.

First Dance Friday: You Are The Best Thing

There is something incredibly soulful about Ray LaMontagne’s husky voice. This song, “You Are The Best Thing,” is a dose of  pure happiness and will have you and your man grinning on the dance floor, and your guest’s hearts smiling too.

The lyrics are so sweet:

Oh because, you are the best thing
You are the best thing
You are the best thing
Ever happened to me

We love it!

Would you consider this gorgeous song for your first dance?

Fashion Location: Behind the Scenes at Centennial Park

When it came to choosing the perfect location for our main fashion story, Centennial Park in Sydney’s eastern suburbs ticked the boxes. With its luscious gardens – and no shortage of stunning backdrops – we watched with delight as our vision for a romantic ethereal-inspired fashion story, complete with white horse, came to life. But the day didn’t get off to the easiest of starts…

After a series of date changes, we’d finally locked in ‘the’ day. But Mother Nature had other ideas – we awoke to thunderstorms and pouring rain. Not ideal on a location shoot! With deadline looming, we decided to brave the wet weather and work between breaks. And sure enough, the results speak for themselves.

We used Centennial Parklands Dining – a popular wedding reception venue – as our base and greeted venue manager, Kate, bright and early – 7am! Fashion director Pilar briefed hairstylist, Budi, and makeup artist, Naomi, and the team got to work their magic on model Valerija, while Pilar and photographer Damian scouted the park for their top spots.

Centennial-Parklands-shoot-Above: Centennial Parklands Pine Grove

From the initial planning stages of the Winter 2013 issue, we had some pretty firm ideas of what we wanted in our location fashion story – an enchanting forest-like spot to set the scene. The idyllic Pine Grove within the parklands did just that. Budi is quick on the scene to make sure there’s not a hair out of place, while Pilar is hard at work getting the dress camera-ready. Valerija wears the Hilde Heim “Highness” gown from The Wedding Boutique.

The idea of a horse as a co-star, alongside the model, would top things off. Enter the team at Centennial Stables who helped make this happen. Horse handler, Claudia, worked with the crew to ensure everything ran smoothly. And we got lucky on the weather side of things, too – the sun even came out at one point!

And there you have it. A stunning location, dream team and ten pages of beautiful bridal fashion to show for it! For the full Modern Fairytale shoot, get your hands on our Winter 2013 issue, which is out now. Run, don’t walk!

Angry Birds Video Game Marriage Proposal!

We love a good proposal story and when we heard about how Sydneysider Ben popped The Question, we just had to share it with you! It has all the ingredients for a great story- romance, sweetness, surprise …and … the “Angry Birds” video game!

Ben and Melissa have been together for 8 ½ years. It’s been a running joke between the couple that Ben’s genuine love of the video game Angry Birds, would somehow be used in their wedding day. Ben coconspired with the techies at Angry Birds to create a special iPad App where the words “Marry Me Mel” would pop up especially for her. Genius!

We love this adorable couple:
