The Great Ocean Walk, Victoria

As any seasoned traveller will tell you, the best way to see the Twelve Apostles in Victoria is by foot. The Great Ocean Walk opened in January 2006 and consists of 91km of walking trails that takes you along the west coast, past the Twelve Apostles, along one of the world’s most picturesque coastlines in the world. The walk is a combination of sandy beaches and purpose built coastal trails which pass through two national parks and overlook a marine national park and sanctuary. If you’d like a honeymoon filled with active pursuits ’bothfeet’ walking tours has a variety of walks to tempt you, from leisurely strolls to hikes that will get your pulse racing. It’s a honeymoon experience you’ll remember for years to come.

The ‘bothfeet’ experience begins the moment you set foot in Melbourne CBD. They’ll pick you up from the CBD and whisk you away to their newly opened 4 star Walking Lodge located at the walk’s midway point, just back from Johanna Beach, in 10 acres of rainforest. A typical walk day begins at 7am when a staff member gently knocks on your door to wake you for breakfast and a briefing before a short drive to the trail. Guides carry your lunch and snacks so you don’t have to carry anything more than a light daypack with bottled water and your camera if you want to capture photos of the changing landscape and unique Australian wildlife such as kangaroos, koalas, kookaburras and cockatoos. There are no set appointments along the way so there is no reason to hurry. On average, you walk between 12 to 15 km per day and the emphasis is on discovery, not speed. At the end of each day a car comes to take you back to the lodge for a hot shower, a complimentary massage, pre-dinner drink and a delicious three course meal. Heavenly!

Bothfeet offers 3, 4 and 6 day walks which have different starting points and levels of difficulty. They all end at the famous Twelve Apostles, the famous giant rock formations that rise majestically from the Southern Ocean. These natural wonders of the world are aptly named because standing at The Gables Lookout and gazing back along the coast at these natural wonders really is close to a spiritual experience. You walk in comfort and style with thoughts of nothing other than an exhilarating walk and the wonderous landscape around you.
