When a groom becomes involved…

Hi all,
Soo, my FH hasn’t cared much about most of the wedding planning… except for now when discussing invites. He wants (really really wants) invites that have stick people holding hands on them… they are cute, I just don’t know what kind of message it gives people about our wedding. I’ve showed him other ones and made some as well but all he talks about is those invites. As I’ve made most of the decisions I don’t know whether to just admit defeat and order the invites for him, I mean, do people really care that much about invites? It’s only a small wedding, so maybe it would be viewed for it’s cute factor rather than.. immature, I guess the word is.
I know I should just let him have this one… It is his day too. I guess I’m just interested in others opinions.

Let him have this one! I’ve made most of the decisions on our wedding but the one thing H2B wanted was a ‘nerd cake topper’. A groom being dragged away from his computer by the bride. Some people may not get the reference to him being a huge computer geek but it made him happy to have major input and at the end of the day it’s a day for both of you. And when everyone loves how cute your invites are, you will both be happy!

What sort of wedding are you having? These invites sound pretty casual and the invite is supposed to set the tone for the wedding and to let guests know what sort of attire they should wear (well the invite and the location do this). If you are having a more casual wedding I would say go for it.
Have you looked around for more variations of the stick people theme?
I found

http://www.penathand.com/wedding/wedding.htm
http://www.invitationsbykarina.com/stick_people.htm

And when I used google images with the words stick people wedding invitations heaps came up. I think a lot of the sites would create a design with you as well. or you could use the imgaes and create your own and print them on vista print or zaazle or at office works.
I think that you will be able to find a compromise. I would also check out etsy.com. A designer on there will probably be able to create something really cool. I would also look at maybe getting a cake topper int he smae design. I think it would really be cute.

i think you need to relax a bit. its about both of you and if its something he wants let him have it. people throw them in the bin anyway. as long as it has all the info on it, it doesnt really matter. i think it will look very cute!!

I am relaxed and I have acknowledged that it is about both of us.
Thanks for the links j_jaye, I will show him and see what he thinks. I’m making him a nerdy cake topper too becson11 – he’s getting a grooms cake of his beloved nintendo with a mario and peaches topper
… or a wrestling one with a bride pulling him along, haven’t decided on that yet either!

First of all congrats !! I think that the idea of stick people holding hands is super cute and weddings are individual and expression of your love. So it’s your day but remember it is also his. I find that most people enjoy receiving unique and quirky invites as too often we see the same old, same old. While I do agree that there is an element of class and elegance associated with a wedding, it can also be fun and exciting! At the end of the day thank God that he is not a Goomzilla! It could be worse!
Best of luck with your planning and if you need a reminder of how bad it can get or you want him to have a part in the planning business check out our recent post http://worldofamici.blogspot.com/2011/05/rise-o…
It has a great website for men (from a man’s perspective) when it comes to planning a wedding!

Be thankful that is all he wants a say in! I spent almost 12 months after our engagement convincing my FH that he would most definitely NOT be coming with me to pick my dress!! Thankfully he has finally backed down. While he has excellent taste and likes similar styles to what I want (he has pointed out dresses in mags we have looked at) it is something I will do with my mum.

You think that’s bad? I have a groomzilla on my hands lol! I think it’s really sweet that he wants to help rather than leaving it all up to the bride and really mine wants to do it with little bits of my help. He’s only chucked 1 tanty so far about the reception venue because he didn’t understand what “packages” meant. I’m pretty sure he thought I meant we should serve package food =/
As long as your invites match your colours then it’ll still look classy =) Our engagement invites were made on photoshop and we’re just printing them onto photo paper costing us around 5c each because I know that at the end of the day only my parents, a few family hoarders, and us as a couple will keep them. And they actually look pretty nice for something that took only 30 minutes to put together!
