What’s your proposal story?

Tue 6 Oct 2009 06:15AM posts 65

There must be something in the water, because I’ve recently had four friends (and me!) become engaged. Thankfully there are no date clashes so far, but it’s looking like a busy 2010.

We’ve all been impressed at how our romantic our other halves were in their proposals… and how they’d managed to make it a surprise!

We got engaged in June 2009 on a Northern Territory holiday. We were in Alice Springs overnight (en-route from Uluru to Darwin) to do a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the MacDonald Ranges.  We were picked up at 4.45am (ouch) and were quietly told by the guide we were getting a 1 hour trip despite only paying for 30 minutes, as there weren’t enough people to send up a 30 minute balloon. Score!

Fast forward to hovering over the forest, watching the sun rise over the ranges and kangaroos hopping around (my first non-zoo sighting). We landed in a huge clearing, and along with 18 fellow passengers (it was cosy) stumbled out of the basket so the balloon could be bought down.

We headed away from the balloon to get a picture of the balloon as it lay horizontal on the ground, and as we were walking, Mr G dropped down. I had my hand on his shoulder, so presumed he was tying up his shoelace. I looked down and there he was, on one knee, ring in hand.

He caught me completely by surprise…

Your turn!

Hi Rubberchicken!

I recently got engaged to my partner of two years Scott and I know what you mean about it being in the air 5 of my friends got engaged recently and one of them just got married.

My Partner isnt very romantic (he has his moments lol ) but he knows I am and I was completely surprised by what he did and how Romantic it was.

Proposal Story:
We went to Bunya Mountains for Our 2yr Anniversary, we stayed in a cottage called Whitewood Cottage and on the second night (Saturday) we went out to dinner, then came home and exchanged gifts that we decided to make each other, I made Scott a Scrapbook of pictures of us and our story so far. Scott made a lyrics to my heart booklet and it was filled with song lyrics of all the songs that ever meant anything to him and what they meant to him etc and at the back of the booklet was a loss piece of paper with a picture of the ring and as I was looking at it, he waited for it to click and then he got down on one knee and asked me to Marry Him  And of course I bursted out into tears and said yes of course Yes!

Were looking at 2011 wedding, we wanted to get married next year but one of my bridesmaid (scott’s sister also) is going overseas from August till January and we want her to be there and we defiently cant organise a wedding before than and a few friends are also getting married this year so we’ve decided to wait, we also want the cooler months so were looking at 14th May 2011

What about you?? Where, When etc

Ladies, those are lovely!!

We have been together since 2002 – and recently got engaged. He had planned a surprise trip somewhere in Europe (we’re currently living in London) which turned out to be Prague, as I found out at the airport. At our last night, we went on a dinner and boat cruise – and then a moonlit stroll around the city to take some pictures of the castle.

I was balancing on a bridge to capture the scenery, realised he had fallen quiet, turned around and there he was on one knee, with my beautiful ring!

Wow I love proposal stories!! Please keep sending more :)

Our proposal story happened on NYE 2008/2009 at the Woodford Folk Festival. We were having a fabulous night and had just celebrated the countdown. An awesome latin band were on next and we were dancing away. He told me he needed to visit the boys room and grab a bottle of water which I didn’t think much of.

About 30 minutes later I started getting a little worried.. but to my utter shock Mr L gets introduced by the band walks out on stage. I had no idea what he was doing up there and then suddenly he was proposing to me (in Polish – he learnt it as my family is from there which made it even cooler) in front of 10,000 people!! The crowd really got in the spirit and chanted for me to get up on stage. When I got up Mr L got down on one knee and gave me the ring.. how could I say no?

It was seriously like a movie magic moment and one I will never ever forget.. still gives me butterflies :)

My boyfriend proposed yesterday!! So forgive me, I’m still gushing with excitement over it.

He decided he wanted to propose at the top of the Rialto, but the first time he took me there it was closed!! Undeterred, he managed to convince me to go there again yesterday for a picnic and some board games (we’re geeks :P ) at the top. After looking around at the city, we settled in a corner, and I went to pull out the game, but he pulled me close and pulled out the ring :)

We mutually decided to get married while laying in bed one night,  it was a fart joke that prompted the discussion. We shopped for the ring together but her chose a few he liked then i chose from those.

It wasnt anything grand but it was special to us. I am afraid anything is exciting with a one year old and after being together that long. Plus i am pretty easy to please. We will get married a month after our 11 year anniversary.

Awww thiswormwine, that’s so exciting, only yesterday!  I bet you can’t stop looking at your ring.  Congrats.

Well we have been together for almost 8 years now, and have a 9 month old son who was born in January this year.

Future Husband talked me into going away for night down the Gold Coast when our son was 6 weeks old (and future mother in law would babysit) after a few hours he talked me into it.  I wasn’t sure about leaving my baby for a night, but decided if I didn’t do it then I would never do it.

We went out for a lovely seafood buffet dinner (love my seafood!) at the Marriott, then went to the casino for a wander around and a few cocktails.  He even showed me how to play black jack which was fun as it was my first time LOL.

We went back to our unit about midnight as I was exhausted (just can’t stay awake like I used too) there was a storm coming over so we were out on the balcony having a look at all the lightening coming over, and he got down on one knee and told me he loved me and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and he wanted me to have the same name and him and our son.  Of course I said YES!

Awwwwwww, still makes me half cry when I think about it.  He even managed to get the ring I had my eye set on the past few years.  I only showed it to him once and he remembered which set it was! So I was rather impressed.  Our wedding is 8th May 2010.

We got engaged last week while holidaying in Angourie (near Yamba  – North Coast NSW). After Mr N booked a secret 3 days stay at Angourie Rainforest resort with a morning booked at the Day Spa , we later drove around the local sights and stopped off at Angourie Point Lookout. After checking out the ocean view for over 5 minutes, I was ready to get back into the car when Mr N asked how I was enjoying our holiday and then followed by saying he has a surprise for me. He turned around to face me and got on bended knee and asked me to marry him and presenting the most gorgeous sparkling diamond ring…..

My partner of a year proposed to me last Fri!

We had spoken about it before, picked out rings etc, but he had said he wanted to do something special, as this was a day people would always ask me about and he wanted me to have something amazing to tell and remember.

I was teaching dance, like every Fri evening. But i had taken 3 calls from him in the few hours i was there, i assumed he was being impatient about dinner or something!

When i got home, the stairs leading up to my front door were lit with lanterns and small candles, and when i got to the top, i saw that there were candles lighting the entrance to the house, and inside the door, making a candle lit pathway that finished where he was standing.

He was all dressed up, and he looked nervous! He stepped into the lit area and said the most goregous things! Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!!

He also told me to stop crying as i was wrecking his planned speech, but it was all just so overwhelming!!

I found out later when i called my mum, that he had called her earlier and asked for her permission, and my Uncle also ( who is like a dad to me).

He was right, it is an amazing story to tell, and well worth waiting for!

Hi Rubberchicken! What a beautiful engagement story!

Here’s mine…

My fiance and I were in Paris with my sister and a friend. It was the night of my 23rd birthday (which was May 9th this year), and a month and a half before our 2 year anniversary. We lined up to buy our tickets to the Eiffel Tower and soon were on the second floor. My fiance is afraid of heights and was very nervous (little did I know that he had something else to be nervous about!!!). Anyway, we were on the second floor and enjoying the views when my sister noticed a sign that said they just opened the top floor. So we bought extensions to our tickets and headed up there. My fiance was getting more and more nervous by the minute, but said it was all due to the heights. We FINALLY made it to the very top of the Eiffel Tower and took in the breathtaking view. It was 10pm at night by this time, which means the Paris City lights were out in full force and looking amazing!!!! We found a spot against the fence and stood in awe of the amazing sight. My fiance then asked my sister and our friend if they wouldn’t mind giving us 5 minutes of alone time. They obliged and my fiance cuddled me from behind and whispered in my ear that he hoped I knew how much he loved me. I told him that I did and his reply was “I want you to marry me”. I said “I already knew that” as we had already spoken about getting married some day, but he said “No, not one day, I’m actually asking you now!” He then took a ring out of his pocket (he bought a beautiful “decoy ring” as he called it from the London markets for around 9 pounds 2 weeks before as he was too afraid to buy the real thing in case he got pickpocketed in Italy or the metal detectors went off at the airport and the surprise was ruined. He put the ring on my finger, but it was too big, so I wore it on my middle finger instead as I didn’t want to lose it. We took a photo of ourselves straight after and to this day that is my favourite photo of the two of us as we look the happiest I have ever seen us look. We rejoined my sister, friend and the rest of our Contiki group, but I only told my sister and friend the news. When we got back on the Contiki bus, our tour manager asked us all how our trip up the Eiffel Tower went. Everyone was sharing their stories when I piped up and said that we had a fantastic time and got ENGAGED!!! I showed the tour manager my ring and she screamed so loudly the guys in the back of the bus thought we had an accident. They quickly heard what all the fuss was about though and everyone was very excited for us. We got back to the hotel, I stuck a bandaid around the back of my ring so it would fit my ring finger properly and we headed to the hotel bar to share a few drinks with our Contiki friends. Our parents were over the moon when we called them during our time at the bar and it was then that my father confessed that my fiance had asked his permission months before at a family party we were at. I can’t believe my Dad kept the secret so well!!!!

We left for home 2 days later and the day after we got back, my fiance took me shopping and bought me the most beautiful engagement ring- the ring of my dreams! I now wear that on my left ring finger and the “decoy ring” on my right middle finger. I love both rings and feel so special whenever I get to tell people that I have two engagement rings!

We’re looking at a 2012 wedding as we’ll need to purhcase a house first, so we’re giving ourselves ample time to save, save, save for both.
