Unmatching Bridesmaids Shoes

Sun 8 Nov 2009 05:40AM posts 8

Hi everyone,

I finally found my bridesmaids dresses after months of looking and now have the dillemma of trying to find shoes (2 of the 4 bridesmaids are overseas). Some want a low heel for comfort and so they are not too tall, others want a really high heel so they look taller.

I’m thinking of just giving them a colour (black) and letting them choose their own heels but just want to know if this is going to look silly as the dresses are knee length. Your thoughts?!

Ive got the same dilema…. I have one of my bridesmaids o/s and all my girls are varying in height…. I think it is nice to have the girls to look the same but that is my personal choice.

I have seen some bridesmaids having different colour dresses but same style dress and this has been quite effective! Though if you are having your bridesmaids wearing the same dress then I think this would be nice to have the same style shoe on. Why dont you wait until your 2 bridesmaids come back from overseas to buy the shoes? and get a heel that is in between – that way you are comprimising with the height of the heel. I used to work in a shoe store and some styles come in different height in heels – so that way the girls can all wear the same style and they can choose their heel. Good Luck!

I think that idea is fine! I was recently a bridesmaid and the three of us lived in different states and it was pretty stressful all searching for the exact same shoe. If you give them a simple colour like black, silver or gold, they can find something that suits their foot, that they’re comfortable in and that they will wear again! You could ask them to take a photo on their mobiles and send you a quick MMS before they buy them, just to make sure you like them. To be honest, no-one looks at the bridesmaids feet, and they hardly ever show up in the photos!

Good luck!

I’m not a big fan of shoes that are completely different (in particular different strappy shoes), but understand the dramas of trying to meet everyone’s heel height requirements.

You could get simple pumps in a basic colour, (black/beige/etc). Some brands will offer the same style shoe, (or roughly the same shoe), in a mid & high heel.

Having said that if their dresses are long, it probably only matters that the colour is the same because people will really only see a flash of colour from the shoes.

I’ve told my girls to buy silver shoes and I don’t care if they are different. I’ve told them that if they want to go shopping together and find the same shoes they can do that too. One bridesmaid is tall and she has recently had a leg injury. She was worried about shoes so I told her that flat shoes are ok as she cannot wear heels. The dresses are floor-length anyway. I’ve even told them to find a hairstyle that they like as they all have different length hair! The dresses are all the same and I may try to find a hair clip that they can all wear that can go with different hairstyles.

I’m going with comfort more than style for my bridesmaids, I just think to have them wear the same colour, and let them pick the shoes they’ll feel most comfortable wearing. My sister is a complete tomboy anyway so I can’t imagine her wearing a heel, and I’m certainly not going to force her to wear them. My other bridesmaid is more like me and will just wear something to make herself feel pretty, but not OTT. I bet we’ll end up with flats or nothing at all by the end of the night anyway!

if this is your biggest dilemma – then lucky you!

I would maybe give them a couple of pointers, like colour and style (strappy, peep toe etc.) and let them find something they are happy with. Noone really look at the bridesmaids feet, and they will be grateful to be able to personalise their outfit within your theme.
