Table Banquet or Cocktail Wedding?

Wed 28 Mar 2012 14:03PM posts 2

I love the idea of a table banquet where each table is provided with selection of menu choices in a ‘help yourself’ setting. The only trouble is I’m having a lot of difficulty finding caterers who will do this at the venue we’ve chosen (small kitchen so food can’t be cooked onsite). Does anyone know or has been to a similar wedding in Perth that may have offered this option – if so, I’d love to know the name of the caterers! I guess that rules out a sit down menu also, leaving the buffet option which I’m not too keen on….

Any thoughts – help please!

What sort of cuisine are you looking at? Do you have something specific in mind?

Because I think something like this would either work best with yum cha type food, indian, greek or middle eastern. I like the idea of middle eastern/greek- you could do platters of different types of meats and falafel then salads and dips and turkish bread etc or with greek you could have saganaki, dolmadakia, rissole, octopus with the meats and breads and salads.

If you are interested in something like that I would contact restaurants local to your venue.

Alternatively is there capacity for a catering tent to be set up at the venue site? This would be more costly as you would be hiring an onsite caterer that would bring generators and cooking equipment etc.

I went to a friends wedding who is of indian descent and they served food like this- big platters of samosa’s, pakoras etc and then huge bowls of rice and curries etc all served with bread. It was really enjoyable and the variety meant everyone found something they could eat. I think they went with the table buffet instead of the usually buffet tyoe due to the large numebr fo guests (300+) which would mean standing in line for ages!

I would also try the local catering school- they would probably jump at the chance to expose their students to a different kind of catering! It would be good experience for them- they also usually have the wait staff as well and tend to be cheaper because you are using students!

Good luck.
