Perm Problem

Thu 9 Sep 2010 11:39AM posts 2

I really love it when my hair is curly and since my wedding is a year away i went in today and asked for a perm to see how it looks and so it had time to fall out if i didnt like it. The lady said she does perms all the time and that it wasnt a problem but then went on to say how difficult it is to do long hair (mine is shoulderblade length and quite thick). Anyway, i asked for curls and since i didnt know any better, thats what i expected. When the rollers were taken out my hair was curly! I was pretty happy with it after i left the salon but it has been 3 hours and although they told me it would definately drop a bit and that they couldnt garauntee that it would take, and then said it will definately last 6 months regardless; well the back and underneath my hair has almost gone back to straight as has the fringe. The top section is still wavy but the rest now looks like a messy rats nest. It has become very oily very quickly and i am not supposed to wash it for 2 days to let the ‘curls’ take but i really dont think that is going to happen. Should i go back and see the salon  and talk to them about it or wait the 2 days to wash it and see if they spring back? I paid a fair bit to have it done, not to mention the damage done to my hair! I dont know where i stand if they warned me it might not work. Help!!!

Leave it a couple of days and see what happens. You can get a spray to absorb the oil on the roots to keep it looking great.

As far as the curls themselves, if the bottom is flat already then it sounds like its not taking too well. My hair doesnt hold curls very well (or hasnt in the past) however i recently had mine curled for an event and it was perfect. I didnt get a perm, the stylist used a hair straightening iron and it staying perfect all night and still looked great the next day. They did drop a little in the first hour but it only helped soften the look. The benefit of using the irons is that you can go as tight or loose as you like. Maybe its worth trying this with your stylist for your next event and see what happens? Its probably cheaper than a perm, mine only cost $80 and that is with a shampoo and styling product as well.
