Hi everyone, I am trying to find a nice place to hold our wedding ceremony. I would prefer an indoor place as Melbourne weather is so risky – even in January! It can’t be a church as my FH is buddhist. Any advice would be great!

Hi JessicaRose,

Werribee Mansion, Montsalvat, Gumbya Park, Ascot House, Ashton Manor? Which area of Melbourne are you looking at?

I highly recomeend getting the Melbourne Wedding and Bride Magazine, it costs about $7.00 and has advertisers for everything http://www.weddingandbride.com.au/

Good Luck

Some friends of mine got married at Montsalvat and it’s a beautiful venue.

I’ve also had friends who had the ceremony & reception at the same venue, which can be a great way to have a non-religious ceremony.

You could try getting married at Melbourne Town Hall – it’s a gorgeous building but doesn’t have the religious connotations of a church or chapel.

Or you could get married under a marquee outside in a park?  Fitzroy Gardens are pretty gorgeous for this kind of wedding, and then there’s The Pavilion at the gardens to have the reception if you wanted to.

Williamstown town hall is also a nice venue.

As others have said Montsalvat is really nice (but can be pricey).

Are you wanting the CBD?

Melbourne Museum- they have some great spaces

Fox car museum and there are a few places along the Yarra like the rowing club and some converted shed spaces.

I don’t know Melbourne too well (but very aware of how the weather can be!), but we are getting married in an art gallery, as we are not active church goers, but want to get married inside. The art gallery we are using is an old convent and so has a chapel with stained glass windows and a beautiful tiled aisle, plus a choir loft (hopefully we can fill this with an acoustic guitarist!).

Check out places that used to be consecrated (old convents/girls schools) but no longer are so you can have a civil ceremony.

Hi Jessica Rose,

In case you haven’t completely ruled out a church, check out St Michaels Uniting Church in Collins Street.  It’s the most amazing place and they are accepting of all religons and don’t have any judgement about being married before.  Plus, it fits 1000 people and you even get a beautiful organist playing for your ceremony.

Good luck!

Have a look at  The Dome on Collins Street in mbelbourne CBD. its pretty spectcular my brother and SIL were married there, its huge but at the same time were able to have an  intiamate ceremony, I have no idea on price but they have a music system, rent out chairs and decorations. Thay have a massive aisle and it was beautiful to see the party from far away get closer and closer and all of sudden peel off and have the bride there. Just a suggestion.
