I don't know what to do with my photgrapher

Hi Knotties.
Well, I have a weird dilemma. Our wedding is next year and 90% of our guests are interstate. Including our photographer who is a friend of a friend. He is giving us a great rate to do shots, plus we pay for his accomm and airfares
We’re very happy with this arrangement.
However, he is originally from Sydney and to my knowledge, he has not been to Melbourne before. I don’t know how he will know the best places to take photos will be. We definitly want iconic Melb pics; laneways, artwork etc. But, wouldn’t it be beneficial for him to have local knowledge? Should I mention this to him? What do I do? How do wedding photographers normally work?
AHHH! I’m kinda freaking out!

Is he going to be down the day before? Our photographer will scout our venue and where we will be asking shots at a similar time a few days before the wedding to plan good places to take shots (and it work out lighting etc). I don’t know if they all do that but ours will have it all planned out, perhaps if he is going to be in melb the day before you could ask if he’ll walk around a bit with you I you can show where you’d like one of your photos?

He will be flying in on the Friday night, quite late I would imagine because he’d come down after work, then Saturday arvo/late morning, he’ll be coming to mum and dads to take some photos of the family getting ready. I think I may ask him what he thinks….I’m a little scared I must say!

I would definatly suggest talking to him and see what his plans are. Let him know you are concerned and maybe even make a list of place and photos you want. That way he knows what you are wanting and it gives him time to research and organise what he will do on the day.
Hope this helps and good luck with your day xx

I would definitely suggest scouting for yourself a putting together a list of ‘must have’ shots, don’t be worried or scared about talking to him about this, you are paying him so you should get what you want, just ask him what he sees, what he is thinking of doing and let him know that you want iconic Melbourne shots, he should be fine if you write it all down (including addresses)
How are you getting to each location? Are you using wedding cars or a taxi? Perhaps you can give the list to your driver and that way, all your photographer has to do it jump in with you
