Hens Night Guests

Fri 26 Nov 2010 09:11AM posts 3

A friend of my FH asked if she could organize my Hens Night. I was delighted, as I don’t really know her all that well. She asked for me to make out a guest list, but I got stuck. My question is, do I have to invite my future Mother in Law?

Hi Shorty76

Your Hen’s night is traditionally a party thrown by your bridal party (MOH & BM’s). I would first check that they are not planning one for you as you may hurt their feelings by accepting one thrown by someone else.

As far as the FMIL is concerned I would say it depends on your relationship with her. Traditionally mums etc are not invited to the hens night just the bridal showers/kitchen teas. However I think a deciding factor could be what is going to happen on the hens night and if you would feel comfortable in front of your mum and FMIL? And given that you don’t really know this person (throwing the party) are you in a position to guess what might go on?

Personally my mum and FMIL as well as my aunts etc are invited to the Hen’s night but I know that nothing comprimising is going to happen (no strippers etc) and they all enjoy a drink or two.

I say go with what you think is the right thing to do.

Thanks j_jaye

My MOH and BMs are all in NZ as thats where we intend to marry. But the friends that live here and cannot make our wedding still want to celebrate by sharing the Hens and Bucks nights with us. My FH has 3 sisters which I get along brilliantly with. I didn’t know the traditions went it came to a Hens guest list, and wasn’t sure if I had to invite my FMIL. I was hoping it would be a night out for me and my friends. Leave the Kitchen Tea/Bridal Shower for the Mums.
