fake tanning

Hi All
I need some advice. We are getting married in the middle of January next year and because of this I won’t be getting a fake tan. This is for two reasons, one because I naturally get a really good tan, and the other reason is because I have never had a spray on tan and don’t want that orange look.
The issue is my sisters (bridesmaids) usually don’t go anywhere without a spray tan or a sugar babes tan. I love them to bits and they are gorgeous, but I don’t want them getting a spray tan or using sugar babes for our wedding. There are 3 reasons for this. One I don’t want them looking fake because it is a beach wedding that is soft and natural, two because I don’t want to look washed out in photos with them, and three because they are wearing peach bridesmaid dresses and I don’t want them to blend in with the dress.
I have let them pick their dress, hair and make-up and i am pretty relaxed about everything else. it is just the tan (orange/fake look) that worries me. I have suggested they use a gradual tan like palmers cocco butter, as I use this occasional in winter. However, they seem to think this won’t work for them.
Am I being too picky?
Does anyone have any alternatives so we can meet in the middle?
Thanks
A

Hi A
I think letting them kindly know what sort of looking you’re going for in your wedding is the best way to start it off. Then perhaps mention that you are going for a more natural look and would appreciate it if they wern’t completely tanned. Perhaps if they get a lighter tan just a few days before might be a good compromise?
Good luck

Hi A,
Unfortunately you can not tell someone else what they can or can’t do with their body (unless you are the governemnt and making laws). Think of it this way would you ask someone to remove their piercings, cover a tattoo or dye their hair a certain colour or ask a skinny BM to stack on the weight so you look skinner. I am hoping you answer no to all those!
It is important that your BM’s feel comfortable and obviously having a tan makes them feel good about themselves. I would rather happy smiley BM’s than grouchy non smiling BM’s (that would look worse in pictures!). Everyone has different tastes- you don’t have to like it but you do have to accept it.
When you chose your BM’s it was hopefully because you loved them (as they are) and they are the people you want standing up there with you reagrdless of if they have two heads or one.

Gorgeous_bride_to_b thanks for your suggestions. I think that is the way I should approach it. Thanks.
j_jaye that is my point I guess, I want my sisters to look naturally beautiful like they do everyday, rather than being overly fake and orange looking, when they go out. Just as you said with piercings, tattoos or whatever weight they are I don’t want them to change a thing. I guess I want them to know they are gorgeous without the orange, extremely dark tan.
I think I worded my first post wrong because I am definitely not apposed to them getting a fake tan, I just don’t want that orange look. more natural like gorgeous_bride_to_b said.
You also right in choosing my BMs because I love them, and part of the reason I love them so much is because I can be honest with them, we compromise when we have different views.
I guess that was my reasoning behind this post, to find out other options/ fake tans that are more natural looking. So I could give them options where they feel comfortable in their own skin, but take into consideration where I’m coming from.
If anyone has some tan suggestions it would be great.
Thanks for your help ladies.

j_jaye I have been meaning to ask you because you have been so hopefully to myself and others on most posts, do you work in the bridal industry? You seem to know so much about everything related. If you don’t you should definitely consider a career in wedding planning or something.

LOL Thanks A. I work with community groups and do a lot of event planning and I am a born organiser.
I think I would kill too many bridezillas if I worked in the industry!

You are definitely a born organiser, with lots of knowledge and experience.
You never know what opportunities are out there in the future.

No worries A
I’m sure it will all work out if there’s a compromise. I totally understand where you’re coming from. You don’t want to have a beautiful natural wedding and in all your photos you have a few people looking orange but at the same time don’t want to look like a bridezilla telling them what they are allowed and not allowed to do. A compromise is the key! They’re your Wedding photos and you’ll want to keep them for the rest of your happily married lives.

Thanks gorgeous_bride_to_b. You are so right. I have been doing some research and I have found out about ‘Tuscan Tan’. It is a brown spray tan used for weddings. I think I might get a light one too. That way everyone feels good about themselves and no one is orange.

I know exactly how you are feeling, I have 5 bridesmaids, 1 is naturally olive skin, no problem with that, but one her style icon is kim kardashian at the moment, she is insisting on fake tanning, I cant stop her. But she will be the only person in the wedding party doing so……I am shuddering about the thought ofit at the moment.
Fake nails, fake eylashes, died black hair with extensions, fake tan….and everyone else rocks the indie natural style. eek.
