Cocktail hour – Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue
Fri 14 Jan 2011 04:09AM posts 9
Hello fellow B2B!
We’ve just signed off on our menu (yay!) and I thought I’d share an idea I had which we’re doing (and I think is pretty cool even if I do say so myself…lol)
We’re both not really what I would call traditionalist (we’re getting married in Hawaii), although I wanted a funky way to still do the something old, something new etc at our wedding without being too literal.
So – we’re doing it with our food for our cocktail hour between the ceremony and the reception. We’ll have 4 hors d’oeuvres which will be served to guests:
Something Old – Caprese Skewers with Aged Balsamic Vinegar (the aged vinegar is the old)
Something New – Grilled Baby Vegetables Skewers in Herb Oil (the baby vegetables are the new)
Something Borrowed – Beef Carpaccio with Watercress served in Saimin Spoons (you return the spoons it’s served on so it’s borrowed)
Something Blue – Kahuku Shrimp Cakes with Spicy Bleu Cheese Aioli (blue cheese is the blue)
This way we get to still hold up the tradition, but it’s our way

Cute idea but the tradition is for the bride to wear the items for luck. Also you a missing one according to the poem-
Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.

Hi Kate8711,
I hope you’re still considering this idea. It may not be traditional (which you’ve stated you’re not) but it’s a clever idea and you sound really excited about it! Well done for making your wedding different in your way.

Thanks Bali_y – for sure! we’re doing things our way even if it’s not everyone else’s cup of tea or breaks with tradition :)

Hi Kate8711
I think it’s a lovely idea! My FH and I are both foodies and I know he would appreciate the spin on tradition with such yummy food! As my wedding planning has progressed I’ve realised I am quite old fashioned when it comes to traditions so I plan on wearing the old, new, borrowed and blue items but I think the cocktail food idea would be a great way to include FH as well.
I hope it goes well for you and all the best for your wedding

Good on you for trying something new. I think it’s a great idea. IN this day and age, it’s great to change things up and abit and given it some thought.
