I am having this same problem at the moment! We have a strict budget of approx $15k as we are going on a US honeymoon and building a house. Keeping in mind I am in the Northern Suburbs, the cheapest reception places I have seen are around the $70-80 pp mark. The reception venues I have contacted are probably a bit far away from you but if you are interested I can give you some names. Good luck!

Hi,
I was in the same boat and am now having my reception beach side in the mordialloc, (which is free!, still need a permit from council but doesn’t cost anything) and reception at The Bay Hotel, their function room is beautiful and their price is very cheap!! You can have a sit down function or cocktail. I have had a friend who went to a cocktail wedding reception there and said it was really good, plenty of food so that is what we are doing as we have a budget of $8 – $10k
I suggest looking at Hotels/Pubs or even restaurants in the area that you want to have your wedding and local gardens or beaches if you want that.

my budget is $5k, i went for places that make their money off their bistro or gaming area, that way functions rooms are alot cheaper, i found places with great food and absolutly gorgeous rooms for $35 a head for a sit down dinner, even less depending on what food you go with, in the end ive rented out a whole restaurant for $22 a head (and its across the road from the church) and that price will probly go down when i tell them i want the cake as desert, ohh and theirs a tab so there isnt any beverages inc in that price, you just have to know where to look thats all
goodluck
