Ceremony & Reception styling – not by venue

Hi ladies, we are about to place a deposit on a venue (finally!) but.. the downside to the venue which is Mirra in Brisbane’s fortitude valley, the don’t do the decorating. They just supply the tables chairs, glasses & cutlery… help?! Where do i start? Obviously budget is an issue but i have to pay someone to style it and prep on the day don’t i? I’m hoping there are other lovely brides out there that have experience with this and have had to organise their own decorations. Thanks so much! Sophie

You will probably need to hire a wedding consultant or a party planner to do or organise the decorating. The other option is to DIY. Can you get access to the venue the day before to set up? If so then you and your fiance could do it.Whether you want to is another thing. I personal would hire someone as I wouldn’t want to be running around decorating the day before but plenty of brides have done it.

I wouldn’t ask family but if they offered then you could take them up on it but you would definately have to be there and working as well (otherwise it would be rude- they are family not employees!)

Another option is to pay some uni students to do- maybe students studying hospitality.

You will have to work out what you want alos. I would suggest keeping it simple. Here are some gooogle ideas

You could use lanterns, flags, flowers. I had a quick look at their website. Do they still have those amazing lantern like light fittings? They would work really well with other lanterns. It is a really pretty room so i don’t think you will need to do much to it. I say just some flowers or candle centerpieces.

Good luck

Sophie we are in the very begining of planning our wedding and our venue (carousel) is exactly the same. Check with the venue, they might/should have a list of preferred suppliers they use who know all the bump in bump out requirments to make your day go smoothly. it juts makes all DIY projects (if your into that) hard as you do need someone to set it all up for you!

Good luck and happy planning

My mum did all the decoartions and set up for her wedding the night before. Her venue was the same.

See if this is an option as it will save you a lot of money.

You can then buy/hire the decorations yourself and if you bought them you can sell them after the wedding.

What great advice! Thank you ladies. They do have a supplier they suggest and know other brides have used before so i have been in contact with them. They offer both DIY and service to prep the venue for us. I’m a control freak but i think it would be best if i got someone else to do it, provided it fits the budget. I’m hoping candle centrepieces will be enough, as you mentioned the venue is very attractive and unique on it’s own so i guess that is a plus and why we picked it in the first place :)
