Cake v Desert

I have been to several weddings where people have had a beautiful sit down three course meal and eaten themselves silly, only to have a piece of $900 put in front of them. It broke my heart to see the cake slices still sitting there at the end of the night in a pool of melted cream.
My question is, does anyone see it as stingey or incomplete if we serve cake as our desert? Our package includes canapes, entree and main, plus a desert option. I just don’t want our beautiful cake to be wasted.
Has anyone else served their cake instead of desert? Thoughts?

We had our cake as dessert. I’m pretty sure some people will be grateful they don’t have to eat both! If you’re going to spend that much on a cake, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to want to make sure people eat it.
The other option is to buy some cute little cake boxes and package up the pieces of cake for people to take home, either as default or just if they can’t fit it in.

I think it is fine to have cake as dessert. We are having a dessert tower with a small wedding cake on top. Guests will be served individual tasting plates with four mini desserts including a small slice of wedding cake.
