BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES

Wed 12 Jan 2011 08:29AM posts 8

Hello ladies,

I am on the hunt for bridesmaids dresses from department stores. I am sick of dealing with bridal shops and would like to try and get some off the rack dresses for my girls!

Can anyone give me any inspiration as to where they got their dresses from?

I am off to check out Myer and Bardot tomorrow but any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks :) xx

I got mine at Target just by chance. When my sister got married we got dresses from one of those dress shops you find in asian neighbourhoods. Way cheaper and they did the alteratiosn for free!

Don’t discount all bridal shops. Personally when I went dress shopping I gave up on the bigger chain store type bridal shops (like spurling etc) as i found them annoying and that the staff didn’t listen (and were all very young).

I visited a bridal shop in the suburb I work in (low socio economic area) that I probably wouldn’t have even considered having a look at and was so happy that I did. The little old lady (who was chubby and not a young size 6 with judgy eyes lol) asked me a few questions and then picked out 4 dresses for me to try. The 2nd I fell in love with.

So I say give the small family run stores a try! They normally stock or can get everything that the bigger stores can but the service is way better.

Try Spoil Yourself.  They’re at most of major shopping centres in Perth (Whitfords, Midland Gate, Livingston, Armadale etc).  They have some really nice dresses.  Colour range is not massive but you might fluke it.  Failing that, try Legends Bridal in Joondalup…they’re really nice there and not pushy at all and have a massive range of bridesmaids dresses.

Hi chich.

I’m doing the same thing. My BM’s are picking their own dresses, off the rack – we were so dissapointed with the range available at formal stores. They all seemed to make my BM’s look like horrible ’80’s clones! Not the look we’re going for! :)

We’ve been looking (during the sales) at places like Wayne Cooper and Alex Perry. George is also another great designer, and you can find stockists online. I’m not sure which city you live in, but sometimes you can find great dresses in cute inner city boutiques (sometimes at surprisingly affordable prices).

Good luck! You won’t regret going off the rack – I think it’s important that BM’s get to show a bit of individuality. After all, they should get to feel sexy on your wedding day too!

Thanks girls, that is very motivating!! I had a look at Myer over the weekend but they are still in summer… think i might have to wait for the spring season to get the long dresses i am after! j_jaye i saw some gorgeous dresses at target for only $29, very disappointed i cant have short dresses because that would be great for the budget :) ))

Hey

I looked around everywhere for bridesmaid dresses and with 2 very different shaped bridesmaids it was hard. We ended up getting the dresses from a shop called forever new. There wernt very expensive and they look amazing.

Definitely try Forever New!!! I have bought many dresses from there. They have an amazing range! If they don’t have a size you are after, give head office a call. They are happy to transfer the dress to a store closest to you or even express post it to your house. You can always get the dresses altered if needed too. I live in Sydney and I have used a dress maker before, who has said that she could do my two bridesmaid dresses made to hire for $100. You really need to look around as it pays off. Try the little asian bridal and dress shops, I have found their quality excellent!
