Bouquet Ideas

Sun 26 Sep 2010 01:54AM posts 14

Hey,

We are having a purple/green wedding and I have NO IDEA what I want to do about the bouquets. We leave for our honeymoon the day after (can’t take my bouquet with us) so I really don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on something that is going to die the next day.

I basically want something nice for the photos and then I really don’t care what happens to them- So I don’t want to spend 2 much money on the flowers.

I do want something that will look nice for the photos though.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hey, we are neighbours =)

I feel the same way, not wanting to waste too much money, we are just getting some flowers from a local florist and arranging them ourselves, my aunty did the same for her wedding and got all the bouquets for about 20 dollars each.

I don’t know where people get the notion that silk flowers are less expensive than real ones because they aren’t + they look foul.

I would suggest you google bouquet tutorials & find a local florist who have a lot of fresh market stock where you can order in the flowers you want without the cost of having them arranged for you.

A simple posy of white/green variegated carnations would look nice (it kind of looks like a lovely ruffled pom pom when you group carnations tightly & it quite modern & romantic)  + carnations are very affordable + really easy for amateurs to work with. You could incorporate the purple into the ribbon.

A posy is the only shape I would recommend for amateurs to try at home as anything else requires a lot of hand wiring & hours of work.

You could also do some single flower buttonholes for the groom & groomsmen quite simply with some florist tape & ribbon. It would only cost you a few bucks.

Of course I have to say I hate silk flowers though. I am more than a little biased :)

silk flowers look good if you know where to get them and spruse them up, also depends on the type, if you get crappy ones, quite a few brides go for silk ones and they dont look too bad, but another option im making your own, if you dont want fresh flowers just type flower making tutorials into youtube, im making some really cute ones out of satin, and they’re super easy and everyone has commented on how cute they are, for all bouquets, (3 BM and 1 for me, plus button holes, corsages and im sewing a few on to a headband for my flower girl) all up should cost me under $50, the material cost $25 for 3 meters and then i need buttons for the middle and some wire for stems, and their so cute, i need about 200-300 flowers all up

Well as an alternative to flowers you could have bouquets made up of buttons. Check out this website – I think they rock and they will last forever:

or maybe feathers or paper – check out this blog for some ideas:

I’m going to have natives, but I’m just going to go to a wholesale florist (who sells to the public) and DIY my own bouquets.
