Bali vs Thailand

Wed 4 Aug 2010 01:49AM posts 8

Hello,

My FH and I are currently trying to decide where we want to go on our honeymoon.

We’ve decided that we want to go to either Bali or Thailand but neither of us have been there.  We wrote down a list of things we want from our honeymoon which would help us in choosing the pefrect place:

We would love to be near the beach, in a Villa with private pool or spa… a tropical feel but with a bit of atmosphere… maybe some shops or markets nearby but for our villa to be in seclusion.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where we should go, or do you have a preference between Bali and Thailand?

I would love to hear any feedback and suggestions.

Thanks,

Steph x

Hi Steph…

They are both perfect places, I’ve been to thailand a few times but never bali(but on my list of places to visit)..

My FH and I are going to thailand but I honestly think its all about the package deal you can get…and what time of the year you will be travelling. Weather plays a huge part of travelling…

Good luck hope that helps

I have a bit of a bias towards Thailand, The places are beautiful, the people are beautiful and I’m going back there in 8 weeks to be married there :) Any resort in Phuket will offer what you are looking for and if you want a bit more beauty head over to one of the islands for crystal clear water and snorkelling.

Hey Sweetheart,

I am heading to Thailand in 4 1/2 weeks for my honeymoon. We were trying to make the same decision, and we decided on Thailand. We are heading to Phuket, and although its in the ‘rainy’ season, were not to worried, means its a bit cooler. There is heaps of resorts to stay at, in every price range. Were staying at the Metadee resort, is absolutley gorgeous. And really reasonible priced which is even better. Also with your looking for suclusion, peach tree hill looks really nice, but we decided was a little far away for what we wanted.

I guess to decided where to go you really need to decide what you want to do. Both have beaches and tourist attractions. I myself really wanted to ride an elephant and see temples, so Thailand was a good choice for us. The best thing you can do is look online and see whats available where. Obviously there are different places to go to in each of them, quiet or busy. Im not to sure of Bali but Thailand i know with you want busy go to Bankok but with you want a little quieter Phuket or there are plenty of quieter places to go to as well. Plus you can go see all the islands a stuff. One thing i cant wait to go see, is Phuket Fantasea, they say its a cultural themepark. It has a show with dancing elephants, which looks awesome.

Talk to your family and friends and find out with they’ve been to either and see what their opinion was. They could probably tell you where to and where not to go. Plus where is nice to stay and whats crappy or over priced. You will find that most places have suites with a deep bath or spa and lots have a luxurious suite with a spa or private splash pool, just depending on what you want and how much you want to spend. Metadee has all of the above. There are cute little villas with a private pool and look gorgeoud but was a little out of our price range. So we booked a smaller room, but gorgous none the less.

When you’ve decided where to go, talk with a good travel agent. You may need to hunt around for a good one, but when you find one they are a life saver. We didnt spend anymore then booking it ourselves but she saved us all the stress of trying to organise it and you have the security that you definatley have somewhere to stay when you get over there. Plus they can recommend where is nice to stay, eat, explore ect. As most of them are seasoned travellers. They can also tell you where has deals on accomodation. We ended up saving $450 on our accomodation just because they had a every 5th night free offer when we booked.

Hope this helps. Let us know what you decide on. Goodluck.

Hi There

I may be too late as you have probably booked, however if you are going to Thailand Ko Samui is a beautiful island. I stayed at a resort on the tip of the island last summer, it was amazing. We shared a private beach with 2 other resorts and the staff members were so amazing. It was a shuttle ride away from markets and bars. It is very different to Phuket.

I also stayed in Phuket and through it was great, however much busier. If you stay in Phuket do not stay on Patong Beach it is too busy. Stay on a nearby beach.

Hope this helps.

My folks have been to both and would never go back to Bali after going to Thailand. They told me not to go to Bangkok, but Phuket is beautiful. They have been twice and stayed at Thara Patong Beach Resort & Spa.

Compared to Bali, Thailand is far cleaner! And the accomodation is better value as well.

My FH and I have just booked our honeymoon and It sounds alot like what you’re looking for…  We’re going to Phuket for nine nights and staying at the Movenpick Resort in a plunge pool villa.  It looks beautiful, maybe you should check it out?

Hey Steph,

I have been to both locations – If I were you, I would head to Thailand..there is so much more to see and do and you definately get your money’s worth.

The shopping is amazing in Bangkok, so I would recommend heading there for a couple of days and Phuket & Ko Samui – Patong beach is a must see, but if you want a more quiet holiday and less people I would suggest an island closer by.

You really don’t need to worry about exchange rates as most of the time the currency for Thai Baht is excellant.

Everyone in Thailand is so friendly and they’ll always look after you.

Most Australians head to Thailand around Easter, June and July as it is much cheaper. It will be wet season – but the heat is so hot you’ll be glad for a bit a rain here and there.

Always bargain too :)

I hope this helps!
