Bad experience with the Photographers

Sat 30 Oct 2010 04:45AM posts 7

We used Infinity Photographers in Sydney and completely regretted it. They’re a photography studio that hires photographers to snap photos, which means that you have to discuss everything with them. We’ve found that it’s much better to have a photographer who works for themselves because there is no middleman, and the relationship is more personal, and they’re more accountable for their service and product.

Infinity said they’d customise our package but then placed a host of restrictions and guidelines on everything, from how we organised our wedding day to how we should go about choosing our photos and conduct the album planning. They tried to make it sound like they were doing us a favour, like offering a “free service” but they were just adding to the stress by having us commit to a schedule for our wedding day months in advance. They’re great at spinning things like this.

The photographer they gave us was rude & abrupt to our guests when they tried taking photos of us, and constantly hogged the best positions, getting into the videographer’s shots and effecting our wedding footage.

The albums themselves are also overpriced for what you get. Note that by pages, they mean sides, so a 22 sided album only has 11 pages for you to work with. We were given what seemed to be a competitive quote but with the most basic album that displayed one to two 6″×4″ photo per side.

The idea is to get you to the album meeting, show you the spread of 100’s of photos taken which have already been arranged in such a way as to maximise the number of pages you need to add, at additional costs,  in order to get your “perfect” album. They are constantly up-selling. And they’ll penalise you and threaten you with admin fees if you do not BOTH attend the album plan.  It also takes 8 weeks for you to get any images AT ALL if you have an album package.

Everything is essentially controlled to benefit and convenience them, not the couple. They also do things like chase you up a day before your wedding for the $330 for an additional hour after you’ve already paid thousands for a service they’ve not yet delivered. It’s hard to relax and trust them when there are so many fiddly bits to their runsheet and packages that effect the pricing.

It’s also not pleasant when THEY have a melt down on you a few days wedding over package pricing. I had to suck it because I had enough on my plate dealing with everything else, but who needs that stress, and which bride needs to be insulted and told they’re being cheap???
My husband said the studio manager was like a fast talking used-car salesman, and he’s right. Our package ended up costing us close to double their original quote because there so many additional costs they tacked on.
What would have been an exciting period of planning and anticipation of the big day was just really stressful and the expensive photos and album that should have been a beautiful reminder of the day are now a reminder of that bad experience with photographers.

Aww, that is dreadfull! No-one should be treated like that, and hopefully more people open up about bad experiences with them! Do you think if they had hired a different photographer the situation couldve been better? You should write into a TV show that confronts scams!

Thanks for the tip- we will definitely pick a photographer that works for themselves now!

I think the photographer is one of the most important factors of the day!! Its sad knowing there is people out there that say they are professional wedding photographers but that dont have the right attitude. grr, I would absolutely hate it if someone I dont even know can ruin my wedding day! I hope you still had the chance to have an awesome time, and hopefully all the stress went away on the honeymoon!

Thats horrible, there has to be something you can do to get something positive back from the whole thing.

If anyone in Perth is looking for a pleasant photography experience then look up Carrie Photography, the are owned and run by two lovely ladies who do everything themselves. Their website is http://www.carriephotography.com.au and also have a facebook page. They are a pretty new company but very professional and the photos are great. We have used them for family sittings and my sister used them for the school ball pre-party photography.

SHR that is dreadful, I absolutely agree to get someone independent. Photography will be one of the biggest expenses for the wedding so you should feel like you can trust them to be repliable and polite as well as talented.

We have a good friend who is a photographer who is hopefully shooting our wedding, i tend to prefer the more photo journalistic approcah with very little posed photos myslef. I’m sure lots of brides will disagree with me but i think an experienced, independant photographer is WAY better than a wedding photography company. It’s the smae old story, they jack up the price because its a wedding, they purchase albums in bulk from China and cahrge you at like 10 times the price, they also have a set of standard shots they get which means your wedding will pretty much look like every other one they have shot….not my cup of tea. I prefer more of a candid approach. Plus this way we will get the disc of ALL the images and can choose to print the ones we like and display them in an album of our choice when we can afford it. I’m actually looking forward to doing that once we’re back at work and life has settled down but that’s just my opinion.
