Are my table decorations TOO simple?

Mon 4 Jan 2010 04:30AM posts 10

Hi all,

I am trying to decorate a small reception room (with a great view!) in a very simple and inexpensive way.

I thought instead of having expensive floral arrangements on each table I could sprinkle purple hyacinths (pulled off the stork) around each table top. For the bridal table I was thinking to sprinkle them along the edge then have wooden letters “LOVE” infront of my fiancé and I.

Do you think this will be enough? Please be honest! Our wedding is not cheap but I am afraid it might look cheap – what do you think?

If you have a great view (which you are paying a bit for no doubt) don’t do much to deflect from it.  What you are planning sounds wonderful.  We are getting married on my partners parents farm in a marquee – I am thinking of a few candles on the table and that is it…we will be surrounded by nature and beauty – why fake it on the tables?

Best of luck for your big day….

what don’t you buy some little tea lights from a 2 dollar shop? or check homewares places when they have a sale and the actual little candles are so cheap!

I think candelight is always very very pretty and classic and add the flowers as well!!

there is a photo of very simple table decorations on this web site http://www.younghouselove.com/wedding-album/ were they’ve only used lemons limes in vases and small votive candles which is really pretty.. so i think if you add some purple votives with the sprinkled flowers it would be really pretty

What also looks great is if you buy wooden letters for words like faith, hope, trust, life and spray paint or hand paint them silver or white and put one word on each table.  Remember everyone will take different opinions from your day, doesnt matter what anyone else thinks as long as you do it your way.  Have a fabulous day :)

you won’t need to do much more than that, just make sure that your reception venue sets the tables with lots of wine glasses. can you place bottles of wine on the tables as well, that way you’d have a champagne bucket on each?

i love the wooden lettering, friends of ours named their tables ‘passion’ ‘romance’ ‘joyful’ etc, and the words stood tall on metal legs, very cute!

it definatly wont look cheap. if you are concerned, why not set up a table at home and see what you think. if you are concerned then i have a suggestion you could use.

place 3 different sized pillare candles close together on a small mirror with the flowers creating a base around it. the candle light will be reflected in the mirror creating a soft twinkling light. alternatively, you could add a few tea lights between the flowers.

oh, and try not to worry too much about what the guests think of your centrepiece. after all, they are there to see you and your new husband, not critique floral arrangements!! :)

Bec87’s idea is good….set it up at home and see what you think.  I did this with my BM and decided on a complete change….glad i did :)

I don’t know if anyone has said this already – but as they say, less is more… we are doing something simple, no one wants flowers hanging in their food while they are eating or huge sticks in front of their face whilst trying to converse with people across the table… :)   Go with it x
