Anyone else getting married at a registry office?

Tue 6 Jul 2010 12:55PM posts 7

Hi, just curious as to whether anyone else is getting married at their state’s registry office? We figured it’d be easier than inviting people we don’t want plus Mr is terrified of public speaking so I’m trying to make it as easy as possible for him :)

I’m too scared to go dress shopping because I feel like it’ll be too over the top for the registry office (that and the extra winter cushioning hehe).

Hi Bronica,

We considered getting married at the Registry office, as we are having a small wedding with only close family and a few friends..but now we are getting married in a park and hiring a small function room above a lovely restaurant in williamstown(vic)

Go Wedding dress shopping, I’ve been to a wedding at one, and it was a perfect day and it felt just like a normal wedding, the bride was dresses up, but her dress wasn’t as fancy, but it was still just as beautiful… You can make your day as special as you like, doesn’t matter where you are

bronica – check out the wedding dress shops, they often have lovely bridesmaid and formal dresses that may be more appropriate to you

I got married in the registry office here in Perth – something completely unheard of in my Italian family. It was really lovely, beautiful view and the celebrant was great. Although in saying that, we’ve now decided to have the ‘proper’ wedding, and the amount of stress that generates make the registry wedding seem like a breeze!

Hi Bronica,

We are having a wedding in Fiji so are having the legal wedding at the registry office and this was made easy because a good friend of mine works there – she said that most afternoons (usually Fridays) a limo pulls up out the front and brides who are fully decked out and complete with bridal party appear from them all the time!

It’s your wedding and you should wear whatever you want to so if you want to go all out, you should!

Good luck!

Hey Bron,

My H2B and I are having our ceremony at the registry office in Brisbane next year.  We are also having a small wedding (40 people) and to be perfectly honest it didn’t even cross my mind that I couldn’t choose the dress of my dreams (however fitted and slinky or big and puffy that might be!) because of our ceremony venue.  The day is about you and your fiance and it should be the ultimate reflection of you and that goes for your dress too!  If your registry office is anything like ours, then its quite plain which means you can work whatever dress makes you feel fantastic.

Good luck with the search!

Hi all. I’m getting married at Parramatta Registry Office on June 4 2011. Have decided to wear a casual/beach wedding type dress to event. This is the second time both of us have been married so we’ve had the big wedding first time around and feel we can do without all that fuss. Only guests we’re having are our 3 children, (one from my first marriage and 2 we have together), and our 2 witnesses. Thinking of getting a bouquet and photographer who specialises in second time weddings.
