Afternoon tea reception

Both sets of parents are super keen for an afternoon tea reception.
We’re yet to tease out of them exactly what this means (ie, do you just not want to spend much money? or is it so we can talk to more people, more of a casual vibe etc etc?).
But, I’d love some creative ideas to build up around the ‘afternoon tea’ idea, for when we do start teasing it out!
I’m thinking something like a marquee with high tea?
We’re hoping to come to a happy compromise with spoiling our dearest friends on the day (approx 100), giving them a lovely meal with us and keeping parents happy!

We looked at this idea also and were thinking garden reception with lots of flowers and yummy afternoon tea food. Have a look at the dessert buffets by Amy Atlas (http://www.amyatlas.com)…they are stunning and you could incorporate savory snacks into the buffet like a high tea. There is a company in Sydney doing similar things … http://www.scissorspapercake.com.au/. You can also hire baristas and have fantastic designer coffees and teas as well as cocktails. Also do a google search for Alice in Wonderland/mad hatter’s tea party themes as they are huge in the States right now for wedding receptions. You could also set up croquet/boules on the grass…good luck
