2nd Wedding and Honeymoon in Europe

I am lucky enough to have met a wondferul English man and we are engaged to be married next year. We are having a wedding in Brisbane, with a cocktail reception and then we fly to England to have a smaller more casual party in his home village. We are then going to go on a cruise in the med for 10 days, we will fly home over this. The honeymoon will probably cost as much as the wedding in Brisbane ($4000 in flights, $5000 in cruise and spending money)

but…

We figure it will be a long time (5years) till we can go back and visit his family and friends,so we better make the most of it. We are planning to buy a home after the wedding and probably start a family a year after, so money will be very tight.

Umm Congrats but was there a question in there or are you just AWing?

Also it isn’t a second wedding- you can only get married once unless you get divorced! It is a second reception.

Oh snap Lizzie138! My fiance is also English and we’re getting married here and were then thinking of doing the honeymoon/celebration in the UK…but lately he has decided that it will be too expensive, and since his folks will be here for our Australian wedding he thinks we should wait at least 12 months before we head over there so we spread out the visits! I don’t think my future MIL will like this, but its a discussion for him to have with her!

Hi ,

We decided to go to Europe for our honeymoon as we received a monetary gift that made it possible. It cost a lot more than we anticipated, due to the financial crisis all countries using the euro were so expensive, just food for 6 weeks cost us about $5k. We didnt eat at exotic places, but we are so glad we did it. It did put us a bit behind before we can have kids (another 12 months or so) but will never forget the amazing holiday we had.
