Wedding Hair of the Week: 2012 Cannes Film Festival

This year’s Cannes Film Festival served up a bevy of beautiful bridal hair looks. Not surprisingly, the majority of hair styles referenced the past, conjuring screen sirens such as Veronica Lake and Bridgette Bardot. We are insanely crazy in love with every look here and we hope they’ll inspire you to try them out for your wedding day.

20s Flapper

Naomi Watts’ pinned-back finger waves are decidedly demure. This would suit any bride looking to reference the jazz-age or those who just want a mature, very classy hairstyle.

40s Pin Up Girl

Jessica Chastain is channelling Veronica Lake with her peek-a-boo ‘do. This is one of the century’s most glamorous hairstyles and the best thing about it? It will never date your wedding photos. The key to this look is making the waves move in the same direction (so your hair is completely in line) and ensuring lots of shine.

Diane Kruger’s hairstyle is a modern version of the peek-a-boo. Pinned back behind the ears, it has a little more structure and sleeker feel about it. It’s a great choice if you have a very clean, contemporary dress and are looking to juxtapose it with a vintage hairstyle.

50s Starlett

Grace Kelly, eat your heart out. We love this look on Eva Herzigova, and you’ll love it on you. With the front section pulled back and given a little height, it flatters every face. Keep in mind though, it works best on medium to short hair.

60s Fashion Icon

This classic style looks like it came straight out of Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Marion Cotillard pulls it off beautifully, and we love the silver accessory dangling down the side. This works best if you have a strong chin to balance the weight and volume at the back. That said, if you have a small face (and are wearing a full skirt), it has the propensity to balance your look.

Eva Longoria replicates Brigitte Bardot’s sexy, just-rolled-out-of-bed, beatnik beehive. The soft silhouette gives it edge and youth.

70s Flower Child

Kirsten Dunst looks like a free-spirited, earth angel with her hair twisted and piled on top of her head. We love the addition of the jewel-encrusted headband by Dolce & Gabbana. See how it was worn on the runway here.

What do you think of these looks? Are you wearing an old-world/vintage-inspired look on your wedding day?
