Today I’m Loving: Iris Fragrances
Prada’s new Infusion d’Iris Parfum Absolue has rekindled our love of powdery iris scents.
by Erin Whitty
Are you searching for the perfect wedding fragrance? Prada’s new beautiful Infusion d’Iris Parfum Absolue, $140 (50ml), could be just the ticket. It’s very feminine but not in the sickly sweet way many women’s scents are today. Rather, it is powdery and mature, with a girlish sense of romance hidden within the blend.
True to its name, the concentrated variant has much more tenacity than it’s earlier counterpart. You may be surprised at just how long it hangs around after the initial spray. I spritzed it on my wrist one morning last week and the following afternoon it was still detectable. The warm vanilla base was relatively unchanged.
You’ll still smell gorgeous when guests say their goodbyes at the end of the night.
Other iris fragrances we love include:
1. Editions de Parfums by Fredrick Malle Iris Poudre edp, $238 (50ml). Bold tonka bean, musk, sandalwood and vetiver make it a fabulous fragrance for a winter bride. It also has long-lasting powers. Available at Mecca Cosmetica.
2. We worship all things Guerlain, and the new Shalimar Parfum Initial L’au edt, $111, (60ml), 02 9695 4800, is no exception. Though it’s not a ‘powdery iris fragrance’, we couldn’t resist including it here. It has a bright opening of bergamot, followed by iris and jasmine, then warm vanilla. It has retained the “wow” factor of the original oriental, yet feels a touch lighter and more modern.
3. For a fruitier take on iris, try Crabtree & Evelyn, Iris edt, $30, (30ml) available at Crabtree & Evelyn. I feel it smells more youthful than the others, but it’s very easy to wear.
Have you tried an iris scent before? What will you spritz on for your big day?
