It was the news that was released on April Fools’ Day, but it turns out it is true! Prince William will not wear a wedding band.

No Wedding Ring for Prince William

St James’ palace released a statement that although Kate will have a ring placed on her finger during the wedding ceremony; William will not have on placed on his finger in return.

It’s not the first time a royal has eschewed the societal tradition of a wedding ring, Prince Charles does not wear a wedding ring on the traditional finger, but rather he wears his wedding ring under a signet ring on his pinkie. The Duke of Edinburgh does not wear a wedding ring at all.

No details of the design of Kate’s ring have been released, but we’re fairly sure it will contain Welsh gold as royals have for generations.

We’re hoping, and royal watchers are predicting, that the design of the ring will be made public before the wedding. Still no word on the design of Kate’s dress, chances are we won’t find out those details until the big day.

What do you think? Does wearing a wedding ring really matter? Is your partner going to wear a wedding band?
