Margherita Missoni, granddaughter of the founders of the Italian super brand Missoni, married her love, handsome Italian racing driver Eugenio Amos on the weekend.
The wedding which has been described as ‘gypsy’ in the media, but was what The Knot would call more uber-chic hippy, fully embraced the bright mixes of colours that Missoni is so famous for. First the ceremony was held in a sweet church at Brunello in Italy, close to Margherita’s mother Angela Missoni’s home, where the family’s dog was even in attendance. After the ceremony guests were invited to Angela’s home for a lavish brunch in the century old gardens. The seating was in fact Missoni cushions which were scattered around wooden tables set up on Oriental mats. Place cards for the guests were bright pink love hearts with names inked on in white calligraphy writing.
Some international publications have been left quite red-faced after they claimed that Margherita’s wedding gown had been designed by Giambattista Valli. The bride, who is the unofficial muse of the Missoni brand and designs the Missoni accessories range, quashed these rumours with a post on Twitter stating that “The dress was made by the women who saw me growing up, following my precise directions and with giamba’s ‘couture counselling’”. Italian Vogue revealed that Margherita, 29, had dreamt of a dress in this style since her teens. According to the Vogue source Margherita spotted something similar in a magazine fifteen years ago, which she cut out and kept, using it for a reference for the wedding gown design.
The bride’s look was completed with a sparkling tiara and floating veil, while her hair was up in braids wrapped atop her face and her makeup left natural and rosy. The bridesmaids, including Tatiana Santa Domingo and Margherita’s sister Teresa, wore brightly printed floral gowns teamed with fresh daisy wreaths in their hair.
Margherita’s bouquet was hand made by her grandmother, with Margherita posting an image along with “The bouquet made from my grandmother Rosita with nimble hands and harvested flowers in her garden. That l’amour.” The bride also shared some quirky insights into her preparation for the wedding, telling her Twitter followers on the 12th June that she had her teeth whitened to match her dress. She also shared that she was nervous in the days leading up to the ceremony saying “My hands are sweatting so much from being nervous, that i cant even type!!!!” and also shared an image of her last evening as a “a bachelorette”.
To finish it with a bang guests then moved onto another party (and traditional Italian wedding dance) which was held at a venue at the foot of the hill from Angela’s home. Guests to the wedding included her sister (actress) Jennifer Missoni, photographer Mario Testino, Suzy Mekes and many other fashionistas who fortunately were close by attending men’s fashion week in Milan.
The final word has to be on the wedding cake though – a huge heart shaped pastry covered in fresh raspberries. Delizioso!
