Wedding Day Makeup

I wear makeup every day, and feel as if I have a particular “look” (unless I am at the gym in which case it is the last thing on my mind). So when it comes to thinking about make up for one of the biggest days of my life, I have had mixed emotions and a head full of questions!

It’s safe to say most of us want to look like the best version of ourselves on our big day and this has been a huge factor for me in narrowing down my bridal look. On an everyday basis I go for a smokey bronze eye, nude lip and a little bronzer and blush. I don’t rock a red lip nor do I wear winged eyeliner. For me, our wedding day is NOT the day to try out a trend, so if you are a smokey eye girl ( like myself) going for the minimal look might make you feel a bit uneasy! If you are keen to try something new on your wedding day perhaps go for something such as wearing false lashes or eyelash extensions.

Falsies are a fantastic addition to your wedding day look. I feel like they complete your overall look and they also open up your eyes! You can have your makeup artist apply them on the day or go for something a little more permanent with eyelash extensions. Extensions are a fantastic option as you won’t have to worry about losing them half way through the day. I for one know I will be tearing up and I am a little worried I will cry them off. Extensions can give you a little peace of mind on a day that can be filled with stress.

If you are completely lost on the overall look you are after for your wedding day looking for reference shots is a simple and fantastic way to narrow down your preferences. I found some of the best references from The Knot galleries (both Real Weddings and also celebrity red carpet looks)! It is also helpful if you find something you like on the website of your chosen makeup artist or hairstylist as you know they can replicate something similar. If all else fails, think of your go-to make up look for a night out, take a favourite photo of yourself along with you to your makeup trial and work with your makeup artist to alter the look to suit your big day.

Try to have your trial at least three months out from your wedding day. In your consultation discuss the look you are trying to achieve and let the makeup artist know the overall feel for your big day so they completely understand the look you are after. This is also the time to bring out your reference pictures. If you don’t feel 100 percent comfortable with your makeup artist, don’t feel terrible about trialing with a few more before you make your final decision.  A great makeup artist will make you feel at ease. Don’t settle, it’s your big day!
