That Moment of Hair & Makeup Magic

On Thursday night I was reminded what it feels like to experience absolute childish joy. The kind of joy that makes you jump up and down on the spot. The kind of joy that I used to experience as a child the night before Christmas. The last time I experienced this type of blissful happiness was when James proposed to me. This time, it was because of hair and makeup.

Now, being someone who doesn’t normally care a whole lot about hair or makeup, this was a shocking event. I was quite blasé about my hair and makeup trial until the day before my appointment, when I had to start thinking about how I’d actually like to look on my wedding day. By the time my appointment came around, I was experiencing nervous anticipation and slight fear.

I had nothing to be afraid of. After a round of hot rollers (feeling like I should have been dressed in a dressing gown with a green face mask on), to massive hair teasing, it all fell into place. In the trusty hands of Nadia and Danni at Franco’s Hair Design, my hair turned out perfectly in just one attempt.

After my makeup was also completed (what a fabulous way to feel pampered- to just close your eyes to the old you, and wake up to a fancier version), there was only one thing left to do. Put in my gorgeous, heart-breakingly beautiful hairpiece.

Bought online at etsy.com, from a fabulous lady named Brenda who has been making bridal hairpieces and fascinators for over 20 years (search for Brenda’s Bridal Veils), my hairpiece is exactly what I had imagined when I first started searching for accessories. When put in place on my wedding hairstyle, I could have almost squealed with excitement. Because suddenly all of the wedding planning, all of the dreams, and all of the excitement of marrying James became real. Because I was seeing myself the way that he would be seeing me on our wedding day. And what a magical feeling that is.
